Howell Mountain Select – The source of the Howell Mountain Select fruit is confidential by contract. Suffice
to say that a handful of select vintners have been producing world class wines from this esteemed site for decades.
Howell Mountain AVA – Located in the rolling hills of the Vaca Mountain Range, unique microclimates make Howell Mountain some of the most envied land in Napa Valley. Uniquely defined by an elevation line of 1,400 feet, this AVA sits above the fog line. One of six mountain appellations in Napa Valley, Howell Mountain brings a level of complexity and drama to the fruit unlike any other wine growing region. High elevations and well-draining volcanic soils produce incredibly flavor-concentrated, age-worthy wines.
Vintage Notes – An outstanding vintage for red wines, the 2016 growing season was a beautiful one— full of hot, dry weather without the valley’s quintessential heat spikes. These temperate summer conditions allowed the fruit much needed time to naturally mature on the vine. A near perfect vintage, most vineyards saw slightly lower than average yields, resulting in dark fruit and inviting young wines.
Wine Maker Notes – Clone 6 from a great terroir of Howell Mountain. The Howell Mountain Select leads withelegant and expressive floral and dark fruit-driven aromatics. Subtle hints of sweet cedar box and currant give way to a rich and concentrated palate of dark fruit preserves, perfectly supported by ripe, firm tannin and perfect acidity to highlight and lift the almost micro-complexity in flavor profile. More cassis and sweet herb linger along the finish, which lasts an impressive length of time. Decant if drinking upon release or hold in the cellar for 3-5 years. A classic example of top-level Howell Mountain Cabernet.

Wine Spectator, JL, 93 – The 2014 Howell Mountain Select is weighted toward wood and toasty, mocha-accented oak. Still a baby, with an underlying mix of intense, detailed dark berry, licorice and cedar flavors that impress now and should only gain with time.
Wine Advocate, RP – The 2014 Howell Mountain Select is a sexy, delicious, up-front Cabernet Sauvignon that has a dense ruby/purple color, hints of smoke, mineral, earth and spice, Supple textured which is typical of this vintage, with loads of fruit, soft tannin and adequate acidity. This is a lush, surprisingly approachable mountain Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next 10-20 tears.
