Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III - Located on the legendary Rutherford bench, this 300-acre site was once home to BV’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve made by renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. Planted with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, wines from this historic vineyard have long received wide acclaim. Boich Family Cellar is proud to continue the legacy of crafting world-class wines from this esteemed site.
Rutherford AVA – One of Napa Valley’s warmer AVAs, Rutherford is home to some of the most prominent wineries and vineyards. Lying low on the valley floor, this region is composed of well-drained gravel, loam and sand, all of which contribute to the area’s distinguished “Rutherford Dust” terroir. Rutherford Cabernets display great elegance, full-bodied flavor and dusty tannins.
Vintage Notes – In 2017, heavy winter rainfall pulled vines out of their years-long drought, but unexpected summer hail followed by record-breaking heat showed signs of an erratic harvest. As fall cooled, ripening slowed, allowing grapes to mature with excellent aromatics, great acidity and intense flavor. The vivid colors and striking flavors of the 2017 vintage are outstanding.
Wine Maker Notes - Quite possibly the most expressive Georges III we have ever made. Notes of spiced plumb, black cherry, and Bosc pear are followed by a note of mandarin orange and sarsaparilla that build intrigue and anticipation for the tasting experience. The palate has darker undertones and a thick round impression. The mélange of fruits and French roast coffee bean are mouth coating and build to a long satisfying finish and tannin that is perfectly ripe and firm. A stunner.
2016, Wine Enthusiast, 94 Points - From the great site in Rutherford, this wine is dusty and weighty in blue fruit, leather and polished grippy tannin. With a touch of that grip on the texture, it shows as complex and robustly ripe and full bodied, offering an explosive concentration of up-front succulence and savory underbelly.
2015, James Suckling, 93 Points - Herbal liqueur, dried tobacco, ivy, dried lavender, and black currant compote. The palate's tight and nicely interwoven amidst firm, structured tannins. Full-bodied with lots of plush fruit, but it remains balanced. Drink in 2022.
2014, Wine Advocate, RP 96 - The 2014 Beckstoffer Georges III has a full-bodied mouthfeel with stunning richness, length and a great finish. It is a magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon from a first-growth vineyard that once was the backbone of many of the famous BV Private Reserves of the 1950s and 60s.
