Wall Road Vineyard, Mount Veeder
2021 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
AVA: Mount Veeder
Vineyard: Wall Road Vineyard
Winemaker: Jeff Ames
Cooperage: 22 Months French Oak, Taransaud and Darnajou
Wall Road Vineyard – This three-acre gem is located at the northern tip of the Mount Veeder AVA, due west of Oakville and the To Kalon vineyard. True to the Veeder AVA, this site delivers both the power and elegance we strive to achieve in our Mountain Cabernets. The elevation, slope orientation and well-drained soils yield fully ripened small berries with concentrated flavor.
Mount Veeder AVA – Known for its acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, this illustrious appellation produces graceful, expressive and world-renowned wine. Limited by nature, Mount Veeder’s rugged mountain terrain, high elevation and cooling influence from the San Pablo Bay allows for a long growing season that returns low, sought after yields. This results in powerful fruit with distinct berry flavors.
Vintage Notes –The 2021 Napa Valley vintage is predicted to be one of the finest in decades. Amid drought conditions, the growing season brought cool nights and sunny, moderate days with few heat spikes, leading to low crop yields and intense concentration of flavor. The berries were packed with color, tannin and flavor, all of which contribute to a stunning vintage from both the Napa Valley mountains as well as the valley floor. The wines are well-structured and powerful while showcasing a beautiful bright acidity and energy. Will age well for decades to come.
Accolades – 2021 Wall Road Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 95+ | Boich’s 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Wall Road Vineyard originates high on Mount Veeder, next to the Tesseron family’s Pym Rae (formerly owned by the late Robin Williams). One of the last picks of the year for Winemaker Jeff Ames, the wine includes 5% to 6% Cabernet Franc, picked at the same time as the Cabernet Sauvignon and co-fermented. Typical mountain scents of bay leaf and crushed herbs accent cassis on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is impressively concentrated and tannic, dry and dusty on the lengthy finish. Give it some time in the cellar before pulling a cork.
